Market Sounding:

Sports and Recreation Facilities

Deadline: June 5, 2026 Complete

Building Ontario Fund is conducting a market sounding to better understand current and future demand for sports and recreation facilities within Ontario, as well as the financing and funding options available to participants in the sector.

BOF is interested in whether these facilities can be delivered and operated without drawing on municipal resources, like development charges, or adding to municipal financial obligations over time. BOF is also interested in whether the revenue-generating potential of these facilities presents an opportunity to structure investments that provide a financial return to municipalities over time.

Feedback is welcome from municipalities, developers, associations, and other parties involved in the development, ownership, and operation of facilities such as:

  • Arenas and multi-pad ice facilities
  • Aquatic and leisure centres
  • Indoor and outdoor sports fields and complexes
  • Recreation and community centres
  • Fitness, wellness, and training facilities
  • Multi-use or integrated community hubs
  • Specialist facilities (e.g. climbing, indoor football) and ancillary uses of these spaces (e.g. cafes, retail)

The form will be open and responses will be accepted until June 5, 2026.
